Emma grew up in a village on the eastern shores of Lake Macquarie in Australia. Richard grew up in a village in the rolling countryside of Oxfordshire in England. They met sailing a yacht from East Fremantle on the Swan River. How did that happen? Just lucky I guess!
Their first project together was in Making Mustard.
Mustard is a 1972 low bay kombi.
Mustard was stripped and put back together with love and care. She shared many adventures with them, and their first adventures together were shared with her. Richard and Emma have been making things together and for each other ever since – but it all began with Making Mustard.
Re-building the Engine
Rich re-built Mustards engine from scratch. It was blue and ran beautifully!
Mustard was stripped and taken away to have all her rust was cut out and replaced.
When she returned, Rich prepped and painted her entire body, including her roof and bumpers.
Her windows were replaced with new sliders where they had aged and seals around those that stayed were replaced.
We insulated the roof and walls, painted the exposed steelwork, replaced the headlining and made roller blinds for the interior.
For sleeping, Rich constructed a bed which could fold out or pack away when not in use.
Camping with Mustard
We loved to camp with Mustard.
She was our vehicle to ride in and our home to sleep in.
